Trey Cortez is the Senior Geologist for Burnett Oil Co., Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas. He has worked in the oil and gas industry since 2010 while finishing his graduate work on the chemostratigraphic framework of the Wolfcamp formation in the heart of the Midland basin. His career roles have included reservoir characterization for Encana (now Ovintiv) focusing on fractured carbonates and operations/development of the highly fractured lower cretaceous carbonate section of east Texas for a small private operator named ENXP. There he gained significant experience integrating seismic inversion with core and log-based geological inputs to develop several stochastic and deterministic inversions and related reservoir models. His current role as senior geologist at Burnett Oil Co., Inc. affords him the opportunity to combine previous reservoir, operations, and development experience within a small technical group responsible for all aspects of many operated and non-operated assets. Trey has been active in many societies throughout his career, serving in roles as Treasurer, Vice President, President-Elect and President of the Fort Worth Geological Society, SWS AAPG Social Event Chair 2021, SWS AAPG K-12 Education Chair, and currently serves as a Board Member and Secretary of the Oil Information Library of Fort Worth as well as the 2025 SWS AAPG Convention General Chair.
